Do any of you live in Pittsburgh and also run for fun?

Unrelated, but have y ou ever been threatened for using the phrases “fun” and “run” together? I have. People hate running.

I’ve been ordered to run a bunch in the past , but never once was it fun.

People hate running.
Some people don’t. Remember, all generalizations are a lie.

Way to generalize generalizations.

I’m just seeing if I got in trouble for the vampire post.

That’s the joke.

Hah, no, just there tomorrow and looking for a group that won’t sell my kidneys on the black market.

Fair.

I hate running alone too, but it’s a good way to earn a beer.
![]() 02/17/2020 at 16:28 |

No, but you are planning to run there OUTSIDE tomorrow? I pass at anything below 40, and anything below 65 with precipitation.
Overcast and 78 here today, heading home for a run in 45 minutes or so.

Hahahaha. Anything above 40 here is short sleeves and capris, light j acket if it’s below 25.
Coldest I’ll go is about 5, but by that point I’m usually held up more by ice on the roads/sidewalks than the temps.

Run for fun as opposed to running from bears or cops?
![]() 02/17/2020 at 17:06 |

No and no, in that order.

I have friends that run in whatever parks that are nearby when they travel. They usually run alone, but I think it would be preferable to run in company too.
Most towns and cities have riding clubs based around bike shops, and they often have regular pack rides that you can slide into if the schedule fits. Do runners have similar groups? Is that something you can research on the web in a large city like Pittsburgh? That’s all I got. Good luck.
P.S: like runners, people think us bikers who go out in frigid temps are nuts too. They don’t understand.

If you want to run through Seattle I'll join for that stretch. Slight detour, but uh... You'd earn multiple beers

There are some places I feel ok running alone but Pittsburgh isn’t on that list. Probably not helped that the last time I was there for work I was looking at halfway houses.
I’ve checked a few running stores and it l ooks like there might be one Tuesday running group that’s friendly to slower folks. I’m wary of crashing a group of like, Boston-qualifying runners. I have so much time to kill tomorrow though, might as well do something.

Need to practice if you don’t want the beats to eat you!

What’s worse, being mauled to death by a bear while terrified, or being mauled to death by a bear while terrified, sweaty, and unable to breathe?
![]() 02/17/2020 at 18:02 |

Good luck. Stay warm and above all safe.

I don’t have to outrun the bear, just whoever I’m hiking with

You’re a true friend

There is a myth that bears can't run down hill very well. I've seen bears run down hill very well thank you.

Yeah, I’d trust the quadruped
over the biped trying to go down an uneven hill in the woods

That is part of it - I don’t run in anything but shorts. Under 50 and I’ll do a long sleeve running shirt and running gloves, because I’m a wimp.
Lovely here today, though I bet most would call it too soupy . 76 or so and 86% humidity.

Know anything about these guys? https://www.pittsburghrunning.org/
And is parking as bad in the Strip as Google earth implies?
![]() 02/17/2020 at 21:20 |
|
Actually yes! I personally haven’t ran with the group, as I just run solo, but they have come by my works Downtown Taproom location this past summer. Seemed like a nice group of people and I’ve considered trying one of their events.
Strip parking might be a little difficult but I’m not entirely too sure how it is before six. You’re welcome to park at my work garage for free, 800 Vinial St (it’s a brewery) although it’s about a 15 min walk across from the strip over a bridge..so not that close
![]() 02/17/2020 at 22:42 |
|
Ah, well maybe I’ll have a beer before the run also to rehydrate from traveling! The walk doesn’t look too bad considering what I’ll do in Denver to avoid parking sometimes. I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up with a minivan or something else gigantic.

Heck yeah! Our building has cool history too if you’re into that stuff too. I’ve done the walk to the strip a few times and it’s not too bad. There might be parking down there but I’m not entirely sure how it is at that time.
F150 would be a very appropriate rental for how many I see around here.
